Workshop: From Meyer to Destreza

Alan begon bijna dertig jaar geleden met schermen. Zijn eerste wapen was de floret, maar al snel breidde hij zijn training uit met épée en olympische sabel.

Meer dan tien jaar geleden verlegde hij zijn focus naar het historisch schermen, met een bijzondere interesse in de (vroege) rapier. Daarnaast is hij gespecialiseerd in de hellebaard en is hij een zeer bedreven langzwaard- en militaire sabelvechter.

Na het (her)oprichten van het Sint-Michielsgilde in Antwerpen bracht het leven hem naar Gouda, waar hij een schermgilde oprichtte in de stad van de kaas. Momenteel is hij daar hoofdinstructeur van het Sint-Michielsgilde Gouda.

Alan heeft een sterke interesse in sportdidactiek, evenals in de filosofische en spirituele aspecten van de krijgskunsttraditie een instructeur die techniek, geschiedenis en diepgang naadloos met elkaar verbindt.

Workshop: From Meyer to Destreza

Alan began fencing almost thirty years ago. His first weapon was the foil, but he soon expanded his training to include the épée and Olympic saber.

More than ten years ago, he shifted his focus to historical fencing, with a particular interest in the (early) rapier. He also specializes in the halberd and is a highly skilled longsword and military saber fighter.

After (re)establishing the Sint-Michielsgilde in Antwerp, life brought him to Gouda, where he founded a fencing guild in the city of cheese. He is currently the head instructor of the Sint-Michielsgilde Gouda.

Alan has a strong interest in sports teaching, as well as the philosophical and spiritual aspects of martial arts tradition. He’s an instructor who seamlessly blends technique, history, and depth.
